The objectives of ERISA are to provide practitioners, whether employers, trade unions, or attorneys with the necessary infomation, skills and advice to enable them to manage employment relations effectively in South Africa.

On the INFORMATION tab you will find legislation [such as the Labour Relations Act No 66 of 1995], Codes of Good Practice [such as that on Dismissal], Sectoral Determinations [such as that for Domestic Workers], and case law that is judgements of the Labo
ur Court, Labour Appeal Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court.

On the SKILLS tab you will find information about the training which ERISA offers, such as the Certificate in Labour Law and Labour Relations. ERISA, in association with the Institute for Professional Legal Training of the University of KwaZulu Natal provides training in employment relations the objective of which is to provide both the knowledge and skills which practitioners require. There are some downloadable documents of interest to students, such as the assignments and other handouts.

On the ADVICE tab you will find access to articles, case studies and other research the purpose of wihch is to provide answers to a range of disputes and issues which arise in employment  relations. You will also find downloadable documents which can be used to manage processes such as that of dismissal in the workplace. Finally you will be able to gain access to professional advise and services such as the appointment of an independent arbitrator, mediator, faciliator or chairperson should this be required.

What is 'employment relations'? The name has changed from ''industrial relations' to 'labour relations', and involves the study of workplace relations, processes and procedures in the context of the legal framework, which in South Africa involves the application of legislation such as the Labour Relations Act.
